Rolling Stones Dictates Obama's Afghan Policy...Posted by: Lumi Boldovici on Jun 30, 2010 Tagged in: Untagged

I bet the Taliban, Al Qaeda and the Iranian regime along with the "naive" leftist elements in this country are overjoyed by the President's decision to relieve General Mc Chrystal of his command. According to the latest Rasmussen poll the president's rate aproval has surged to 49. Truman's approval rate when he fired McArthur was 22. This is only one of the reasons that there is little similarity between Truman/McArthur and Obama/McChrystal contrary to the MSM and pundits commentaries.
Secondly, McArthur was extremely successful as result of his victories in Asia whereas McChrystal had yet to win the Afghan war. But this situation will ultimately benefit America and the republicans if Petraeus succeeds. That is only if he is delegated sufficient authority to win the war.
Meanwhile our brave soldiers "die for a tie" since it seems that this administration's indecisive, insufficient deployment of troops and restrictive limits on the ROE (rules of engagement) deprive our troops from exercising the necessary military strategy needed to win the war.
Firing Mc Chrystal was wrong because the decision stems from the President's personal vanity , his inability to deal with criticism , and lack of personal and executive confidence. Not from the general 's failure on the battlefield or a serious violation like the violation of constitutional mandate of civilian control of the military.
So ,Mc Chrystal and his aids made a few funny comments of the record, about Biden, about the french diplomat and Obama. So what ? During the Civil War General McClellan called President Lincoln "ape" and "gorilla", yet Lincoln did not care and only relieved McClellan of his command because of his inability to win battles, and justly so.
As a matter of fact Lincoln took a lot of heat for appointing Grant who was very fond of alcohol, would ride off for days officers not knowing his whereabouts. At times Grant would be also in an alcoholic coma for days. Nevertheless, Lincoln did not fire Grant and kept him because of Grant's ability to win the war. But that would be expecting too much from Obama...I guess that is what happens when you only read one book ,attend reverend Wright's sermons and have Valerie Jarret as supreme adviser. Time to put Valerie on the bus and send her to Chicago. After all I refuse to believe that Obama believes that the Israeli settlements are the problem and not the Iranians building the bomb and calling for the destruction of Israel. Someone must give the President the wrong advise...
Personally, I don't know if under the current's administration war policy Mc Chrystal would have the latitude to win the war. I mean telling the Taliban that we are going to remove our troops by July 2011 and the civilians that they would be left at the mercy of the Taliban. I do not think that would be supportive of the counterinsurgency plan.
Meanwhile, General Petraeus is an outstanding commander that designed the basis for the success of the counterinsurgency strategy -- protecting the civilian population. That is not only humane but brilliant military strategy. Unfortunately, the Taliban cowards as they are employ children and mingle with the civilian population thus creating difficulties for our troops . One can only imagine the media-tic exposure of American soldiers killing innocent civilians and children in Afghanistan. The Huffing ton Post and New York Times will be fine tools of the Taliban propaganda.
Yes, but instead of reporting on the difficulties that our military and the dangers they are exposed to every second while they defend our freedoms. Coward and treacherous Michael Hastings of Rolling Stones, in the most dishonorable fashion decided to divulge what was a gentleman's agreement , the trivial conversation of Mc Chrystal's staff. So, while our boys protected Hasting from the Taliban while Hastings was polishing his career, Hastings handed them over to the wolves.
I mean, General Mc Chrystal has seen his wife 30 days in one year for the past nine years. The personal sacrifices endured by our warriors are unbelievable. They deserve our admiration and respect. No country can survive and thrive without a strong military. That is a historical fact . War is imperative for the security, survival and perpetuation of the state.
In order to win wars generals have to be in charge of the strategy and rules of engagement. It is preposterous and counterproductive when combatants have to call lawyers in US to determine whether is legal to attack. Success in war depends on rapid adjustment of strategy to favorable circumstances . This strategy is infallible it has been demonstrated by Alexander the Great, the world's undefeated general!
The exercise of civilian control over the military should always prevail. But ridiculous excessive unsubstantiated control can have negative consequences. In fact this was one of the reasons that destroyed the Athenian Empire. Many generals as Themistocles were ostracized on questionable charges. More so it was the Sicilian expedition that destroyed Athens' military power. Nicias the general in charge failed to act because fear of ostracism at home. The point being is that the reality of war unfolds in Afghanistan not Washington.
Mc Chrystal's firing will probably not have a negative effect upon the Afghanistan war since we do have an outstanding general taking charge. But President Obama should not let vanity and "Rolling Stone" dictate his war strategy in Afghanistan . This is my only problem.
On last note of consolation as Mc Arthur said: "old soldiers never die, they just fade away".
Thank you, General McChrystal for your outstanding service and patriotism.
